Step 1

Hourly or fixed price — which pays off?

Most moving companies in Stockholm offer either an hourly rate (per mover and hour) or a fixed price (for the whole job). The hourly rate often looks lower on paper — but doesn't include delays for parking, elevator or narrow stairwells, which is common on Södermalm and Vasastan.

A fixed price is based on a short walk-through of your belongings — either via video call or on-site visit. You know exactly what the move will cost before it begins, and you pay the same regardless of how long the day turns out. For most private moves this is the safest option.

Checklist

  • Ask for both hourly and fixed price
  • Always count on at least 4 hours minimum at hourly rate
  • Check whether a call-out fee applies
  • Make sure insurance is included

Step 2

Concrete price examples — after RUT

The prices below apply to moves within Stockholm with two experienced movers and a truck, after a 50% RUT deduction. Distances over 30 km or moves between cities are priced separately — see long-distance moves.

1 room / studio: approx. SEK 3,500 – 5,500. Usually 3–4 hours.
2 rooms: approx. SEK 4,500 – 8,500. 4–6 hours.
3 rooms: approx. SEK 7,500 – 12,500. 6–8 hours.
4 rooms / smaller villa: approx. SEK 12,000 – 20,000. A full working day.
Larger villa: approx. SEK 18,000 – 35,000. Often two vehicles, sometimes two days. See our guide on villa moves.

Step 3

What affects the price most?

Volume is by far the most important factor. Then comes access — floor without elevator, narrow stairwells, long carrying distance from door to truck or blocked loading zones can add several hours. A temporary parking permit, which we apply for with the city well in advance, often saves more than it costs.

Timing also matters. Month-end, Fridays and summer are the most expensive. Mid-month, on a Tuesday in February, is the cheapest — if you have that flexibility.

Checklist

  • Volume (sqm + furniture density)
  • Elevator in both homes
  • Distance between addresses
  • Parking at loading and unloading
  • Add-on services: packing, assembly, storage
  • Timing: weekday mid-month is cheapest

Step 4

The RUT deduction — how it works

The RUT deduction applies to labour cost, not materials or transport. You get 50% off the working time, max SEK 75,000 per person per year (2026). We apply the deduction directly on the invoice — you don't need to apply afterwards.

For RUT to apply, you must be registered at the address and pay by invoice with your name and personal ID number. Business moves are not covered by RUT.

Step 5

How to lower the bill without compromising quality

Pack yourself where you can — kitchen, books and clothes are easy and save several hours. Sort things out before the move, throw out or donate what you don't use. Book early (preferably 4–6 weeks ahead) and choose a weekday in the middle of the month if possible. Always ask for a fixed price so you avoid surprises — and combine the move with move-out cleaning in the same job for a package discount.

Checklist

  • Pack kitchen, books and clothes yourself
  • Sort out before — throw, sell, donate
  • Book 4–6 weeks in advance
  • Choose a weekday mid-month if possible
  • Ask for a package price with move-out cleaning
