Guide · Villa move

Moving to a villain Stockholm.

A villa move has more details than an apartment move — larger volume, longer time and often outbuildings, garage and garden to factor in. Here we guide you through the entire process, from on-site visit to the first evening in the new house.

Step 1

Start with an on-site visit

A villa move has too many details to estimate via a form. Book an on-site visit where we walk through every room, garage, basement, outbuildings and driveway. Then we can give a fixed price that actually holds — and avoid unpleasant surprises on moving day.

If you live in Bromma, Danderyd, Täby or Lidingö, we'll happily come out the same week.

Checklist

  • Book an on-site visit 4–6 weeks before the move
  • Show every room, garage, basement and outbuilding
  • Discuss disassembly and assembly
  • Decide timeline and number of vehicles
  • Ask for a fixed price in writing

Step 2

Expect larger volume

A villa often holds twice as much as an apartment. Beyond the visible, there's a garage, basement, attic, outbuildings, greenhouse and outdoor furniture. Count on 60–100 m³ of belongings and 60–120 boxes for a normal-sized villa.

Inventory early and clear out what you won't take — every cubic metre less saves both time and money.

Checklist

  • Inventory garage, basement, attic, outbuildings
  • Sort garden furniture and tools
  • Dispose of what isn't coming with you
  • Calculate box need: 60–120 pieces
  • Include greenhouse, pool, play equipment

Step 3

Disassemble in good time

Large villa furniture — beds, dining tables, sofas with 4 seats, sectional wardrobes — often needs to be disassembled to fit through doors and corridors. We do this as standard, but it goes faster if you've already taken down curtains, paintings and lamps in advance.

Outdoors: take apart playhouses, swing sets, greenhouses and pool covers. Trim hedges blocking the driveway so the moving truck can park close to the entrance.

Checklist

  • Disassemble beds, dining tables, wardrobes
  • Take down curtains, paintings, lamps
  • Take apart playhouses and outdoor swings
  • Empty greenhouse, pool, jacuzzi
  • Trim hedges along the driveway
  • Protect parquet with floor protection

Step 4

Prepare the new villa

Before the truck arrives: make a floor-plan sketch where every large piece of furniture has its place. Then set-up goes fast and neither you nor the movers have to guess. Check that electricity, water and heating work — that's not something you want to discover when half your belongings are already inside.

Book any move-out cleaning in the old home so that part is also sorted. If you need to move further than the Stockholm region — see our page on long-distance moves.

Checklist

  • Sketch floor plan with furniture placement
  • Check electricity, water, heating in the new house
  • Protect newly laid floors with floor protection
  • Book move-out cleaning in the old house
  • Make sure the driveway is accessible

Step 5

Moving day — and the day after

Expect a long day. With proper planning and enough movers, you'll still sleep at home the first evening — beds assembled, kitchen functional and bathroom usable. The rest can be unpacked at a calm pace during the first week.

Complement with our moving checklist week by week to make sure nothing is forgotten along the way.

Checklist

  • Meet the team and walk through the floor plan
  • Make sure the driveway is clear
  • Direct rooms during set-up
  • Confirm assembly of beds and kitchen
  • Check belongings against the inventory list
