Step 1

What is the RUT deduction?

RUT is a tax rebate for household services in the home — Cleaning, Maintenance and Laundry. Since 2016 it also covers moving help and move-out cleaning. You only pay half the labour cost; we handle the application with the Tax Agency. No paperwork, nothing afterwards.

Step 2

Who can claim the RUT deduction?

You must be at least 18 years old, registered as resident in Sweden and pay enough tax to cover the deduction. The address must be your current or new home — not an office or a holiday home you don't actually use.

Companies are not entitled to RUT — different rules apply for how businesses account for moving costs.

Checklist

  • At least 18 years old
  • Registered as resident in Sweden
  • Pays income tax in Sweden
  • The home is your current or new one

Step 3

What counts as RUT-eligible work?

All work the movers carry out in the home is RUT-eligible: packing, carrying, loading, transport (working time during the drive), unloading, carrying up and setting up. Assembly and disassembly of furniture also count.

What is not included is materials (boxes, bubble wrap), vehicle cost, parking permits and storage. We always specify on the invoice what is RUT-eligible.

Step 4

The cap — SEK 75,000 per person per year

Since 2024 the RUT cap is SEK 75,000 per person and year. If two of you live in the household, you can deduct up to SEK 150,000 together — as long as both names and personal ID numbers are on the invoice. For most moves that's plenty. Larger villa moves can sometimes reach the cap — then we happily split the invoice between two people.

Step 5

What it looks like on the invoice

You receive an invoice with two lines: "Labour cost after RUT" and "Materials/transport". You only pay the invoiced amount — we claim the rest from the Tax Agency. Should the agency for some reason deny the deduction (extremely rare), we take that risk.

When you request a quote you always see both gross and net price.

Checklist

  • Ask for both gross and net price in the quote
  • Make sure your personal ID number is on the invoice
  • Save the invoice — the Tax Agency may request a copy
  • Two people = two caps (SEK 150,000/year)
