Step 1

Rule of thumb — boxes per home size

The number of boxes varies with furniture density, but the following rough estimate is accurate for most households in Stockholm:

1 room / studio: 15–25 boxes.
2 rooms: 25–40 boxes.
3 rooms: 40–60 boxes.
4 rooms / smaller villa: 60–90 boxes.
Larger villa: 90–150 boxes.

Step 2

The right type of box for the right thing

A common mistake is to pack books in large boxes — they become too heavy to lift safely in the stairwell. Use small book boxes instead. Save large boxes for pillows, clothes and decor. For china and glass there are special divider boxes that protect without wrapping each item individually.

Checklist

  • Small boxes (45 l) for books, china, tools
  • Large boxes (70 l) for clothes, pillows, decor
  • Wardrobe boxes with hanging bar — clothes stay hanging
  • Specialty boxes for paintings and mirrors
  • Bubble wrap and packing paper for glass and china
  • Thick packing tape and clear marker

Step 3

Label smart — it saves hours at the new address

Label every box on two sides with room and short contents, e.g. "KITCHEN – glasses, wine glasses". Unpacking goes twice as fast. Put a big X mark on boxes with fragile contents.

Step 4

Do you need to buy them, or can we lend them?

We deliver boxes to your address a few days before the move and take back any unused ones, then recycle the used ones after the move — so you don't burden your storage or the environment unnecessarily. It's usually cheaper than buying disposable boxes from a hardware store.
